Iran-linked media outlets have broadcast videos depicting alleged security vulnerabilities involving First Lady Melania Trump and President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, prompting U.S. security officials to launch investigations.
The Tasnim News Agency, associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, released a video in July that focused on Melania Trump and identified locations in New York City connected to her public activities. The material showed images of her motorcade and referenced luxury retailers in Manhattan, including Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.
U.S. officials deemed the content threatening because it presented information about Melania’s movements and security arrangements in a manner designed to highlight vulnerabilities. Reports indicated the video encouraged potential attackers to exploit her routines and discussed the possibility of using toxic substances against her.
Escalation With Second Video
Iranian state television broadcast another video in August specifically targeting Barron Trump, who is 20 years old. The nearly three-minute broadcast discussed an alleged plot against him and claimed his movements were being monitored.
The second video displayed locations associated with Barron, including his university, along with images purporting to show vehicles and security personnel connected to his protection. Reuters reported that the broadcast alleged a $10 million bounty had been offered for his killing, though that claim could not be independently verified.
Official Response and Investigation
The U.S. Secret Service confirmed awareness of the material and began investigating it as part of its protective-intelligence responsibilities. “The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” spokesperson Nate Herring said, according to Reuters.
The agency declined to discuss specific security measures or investigative details, citing operational security concerns. Security officials distinguished between threatening propaganda and a verified operational plot, noting that the appearance of a threatening video does not by itself establish that an attack is imminent.
Broader Context and Tensions
The reported videos emerge amid heightened tension between Washington and Tehran. Iranian threats against President Trump and his family have been reported previously, particularly following the 2020 U.S. strike that killed Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander Qassem Soleimani.
Melania Trump has maintained a limited public profile compared to the president, while Barron Trump has largely remained outside day-to-day political activity. Despite their relative privacy, both became subjects of hostile messaging connected to the broader U.S.-Iran confrontation.
Analysts examining the material assessed the source, intended audience and information contained within it to determine whether any details corresponded with independently identified security concerns. Authorities provided few details about ongoing protective assessments, and there was no public confirmation that an immediate attack was planned against either Melania or Barron Trump.
