President Donald Trump’s endorsed candidates dominated Arizona’s Republican primary elections Tuesday, securing nominations across statewide and congressional races.
The results underscore Trump’s influence within the GOP and position Republicans to challenge Democrats in key November midterm contests. Trump-backed U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs won the Republican gubernatorial nomination by a substantial margin, setting up a rematch against Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs, who secured her party’s nomination without opposition.
Biggs Leads Trump-Endorsed Slate
Biggs, a longtime conservative and former Freedom Caucus chairman, defeated fellow Rep. David Schweikert and other challengers in the gubernatorial race. At a Phoenix rally, Trump stated, “I hate to lose him from Congress… but he’ll be a great governor.”
Biggs campaigned on cutting taxes, securing the border, and restoring law and order. His victory extends Trump’s record of backing successful statewide Republican primary winners in Arizona.
Congressional Races Solidify GOP Support
In Arizona’s 1st Congressional District, former Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely won the Republican nomination with Trump’s endorsement. Feely will face Democrat Amish Shah in the general election in the competitive suburban district.
Trump called Feely one of two “Highly Respected America First Patriots” in a Truth Social post. Former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, another Trump-endorsed candidate, won the 5th Congressional District primary, succeeding Biggs in the deep-red seat.
Trump described Lamb as a “MAGA Warrior” in a post declaring, “Mark Lamb has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Congressman from Arizona’s 5th Congressional District.” Rep. Juan Ciscomani advanced unopposed in the 6th District with Trump’s backing.
Democratic Results and Party Dynamics
On the Democratic side, Gov. Hobbs advanced to the general election after defeating Trump-backed Kari Lake in 2022 by a narrow margin. Rep. Greg Stanton held off a far-left challenger in the 4th District, avoiding a significant upset.
The primary victories reflect Republican unity behind Trump-aligned candidates who prioritize border security, economic growth, and election integrity. These races preview the competitive midterm environment in Arizona, a key battleground state scheduled to hold general elections roughly 100 days away.
